Third | UFC Flyweight Champ Demetrious Johnson Wins ESPY For ‘Best Fighter’

DemetriousJohnson , currently regarded as perhaps the best pound-for-poundmixed martial artist in the world, can add the ESPY award for “BestFighter” to his trophy case.

The reigning UFC flyweight champion received the honor during aceremony on Wednesday night. “Mighty Mouse” beat out UFClightweight champion ConorMcGregor and boxers Andre Ward, Gennady Golovkin, and TerenceCrawford to win the award.

Johnson is the third straight mixed martial artist to capture the”Best Fighter” ESPY, joining McGregor in 2016 and former UFCbantamweight queen RondaRousey in 2015. Prior to that, undefeated boxingpound-for-pound great FloydMayweather had won the award three years in a row.

Johnson is currently tied with AndersonSilva for most consecutive UFC title defenses with 10. He lastappeared at UFC on Fox 24, where he submitted Wilson Reis with an armbar 4:49 into the third round. Since then, the AMCPankration representative has been in a public dispute with UFCPresident Dana White regarding his next opponent after he balked atfacing T.J.Dillashaw in favor of Ray Borg .
